SUPERSONIC MARIO BROTHERS?

O.K., maybe you didn't ask for it specifically. But by yearend, you could be playing Super Mario World on that flight to London. On Aug. 10, the U.S. subsidiary of Japanese videogame maker Nintendo introduced a version of its home entertainment system for airplanes, hotels, and even cruise ships.

Travelers will get to play the same 16-bit videogames their kids play at home. And as if that weren't enough to keep fliers occupied for six hours, Nintendo will offer six in-flight movies, electronic shopping, and CD-quality music, all using a tiny video screen mounted to the seatback. The system should be installed in over 50 Northwest, Virgin Atlantic, and China Air Lines planes this year.EDITED BY KEITH H. HAMMONDS
