DON'T LISTEN FOR MCDONNELL'S NEW JET: IT'S TOO QUIET

McDonnell Douglas thinks your Paris Air Show coverage ("Meet Bill Clinton, arms merchant," Top of the News, June 28) is proof that our twin-engine MD-90 is here at the right time.

The article says the only demonstration flights of new commercial aircraft were by a French company. Not so. Our MD-90 flew six times during the show.

Because the MD-90 is the quietest aircraft in its class, the guests at the show could not take note of the takeoffs, flybys, and landings just by listening. Maybe that's why BUSINESS WEEK didn't report on the MD-90's ultraquiet performance.
