The future is closer than you think: On Apr. 27, General Instrument, Intel, and Microsoft announced the development of a new generation of cable and satellite TV converters that will unscramble cable programs and act as a TV-top computer for interactive television--potentially allowing viewers to do things such as play along with Jeopardy! from their homes. The DigiCable boxes, to be unveiled late this year, will be rented out to consumers through cable operators. EDITED BY THANE PETERSON
