Referring to "From New Deal to raw deal" (Economics, Apr. 5), my wife and I are a retired middle-middle-class couple, neither low-income nor affluent. Changing the level of taxation of Social Security benefits to 85%, as Clinton wants to do, will increase our federal income tax by 20.66%.
Clinton promised during the campaign not to raise taxes on the middle class. Now the post-election plan calls for socking retired middle-middle-class people.
