McDONNELL DOUGLAS SETTLES WITH THE EEOC

McDonnell Douglas paid $20.1 million to settle the second-largest age discrimination case ever brought by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The EEOC charged that the aerospace giant unfairly targeted workers above age 55 when it reduced employment at its St. Louis operations in 1990 and 1991. McDonnell will now pay $10 million in cash to 900 older workers, plus an additional $10.1 million in enhanced pension benefits. The company also will give 200 new jobs to members of that group.EDITED BY KEITH H. HAMMONDS
