Slovak officials started pushing eastern Europe to the brink of a political crisis this week when they began diverting water from the Danube for the controversial Gabckovo Dam. The 15-year-old project is strongly mpposed by Hungary, which threatens economic reprisals, and it could also sour relations with the Czech republic.
