Washington Outlook: Capital Wrapup


For years, voters have said they hate negative campaigns but then have gone on to elect champion mudslingers. This year, voters may be making their distaste count. The apparent winner of the Sept. 15 New York Democratic Senate primary, Robert Abrams, stayed somewhat above the fray while former Representatives Geraldine Ferraro and Elizabeth Holtzman tore each other to shreds. A week earlier, Wisconsin Democrats nominated dark horse Russell D. Feingold to challenge GOP Senator Bob Kasten after two better-known Democrats damaged each other in a mudfest.Edited by Stephen H.
