TEAMSTERS: THINGS GO BETTER WITH COKE

The Teamsters called off a national campaign against Coca-Cola after the No. 1 soft drink maker agreed to hold a series of talks with the union beginning July 10. The two sides will discuss Teamster complaints that Coca-Cola bottlers are cutting health and retirement benefits, closing plants, and increasing work loads. Union members held a small rally outside Coca-Cola's Atlanta headquarters on July 1, just as the company agreed to the talks. Because of the company's action, Teamsters officials now say they will hold off on plans to stage anti-Coke protests during major sporting events this weekend.EDITED BY HARRIS COLLINGWOOD
