APPLE GETS A BREAK FROM THE JUDGE
Apple Computer has won a stay. On May 12, U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker "reluctantly" agreed to reconsider his prior ruling that gutted Apple's copyright suit against Microsoft. Walker's reasoning: Apple filed volumes of new information that can't be ignored in so important a case. A June 9 hearing is scheduled.
On Apr. 14, Walker had tossed out most of Apple's claims that Microsoft Windows illegally copies the "look and feel" of its Macintosh software. The case, which has dragged on for four years, is seen as crucial to the computer industry, which is grappling with how and when to protect intellectual property.EDITED BY HARRIS COLLINGWOOD
