THE SBA'S PLACE IS AT HOME

Your description of the SBA as a major disappointment in "An export boom is a terrible thing to waste" (Editorials, Apr. 13) belies a lack of understanding of the SBA. It is not the lead federal agency in this area. We do offer assistance to help small businesses export, but our primary focus is on domestic business development and capital formation.

Our loans to exporters rose from $42 million in 1990 to $123 million in 1991. Export revolving-line-of-credit loans surged from $4.85 million in 1990 to over $26 million in 1991.
