CHRYSLER RETIRES ITS PRICIEST JEEP

The Jeep Grand Wagoneer is driving off into the sunset. On Feb. 26, Chrysler announced that 1991 will be the last year for the four-wheel-drive luxury utility vehicle, which has changed little since its introduction in the 1960s. Wagoneer buyers, whose $102,000 average incomes make them Chrysler's richest customers, are turning to spiffier competitors, such as the Eddie Bauer version of the Ford Explorer. Chrysler's new top-of-the-line Jeep, code-named ZJ, won't be ready until late 1992.EDITED BY HARRIS COLLINGWOOD
