1. Most public libraries have a Web site, so check to see what resources are available in your area. There may be a wealth of knowledge and resources easily accessible for little or no cost.
2. Even though it sounds simplistic, it's worth a visit to your local library to talk to the librarians. They are your best first resource and can usually point you in the right direction.
3. The American Library Assn. has several Web links that offer valuable assessment tools for starting a business, including a small-business FAQ and a financial-status checklist.
