Former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, considered a champion of small business has announced her intention to run for Governor of California. While national co-chair of John McCain’s presidential campaign she touted the McCain/Palin ticket as the best option for small business. During the Republican National convention Whitman rallied the troops saying that a McCain administration would push Congress to reduce business taxes thereby helping entrepreneurs to create jobs. Will Whitman be California’s small business gubernatorial candidate? The answer is, well, maybe. Whitman’s campaign website certainly underscores her support of business but changes at eBay such as a new ratings policy and fees for sellers has frustrated the ranks of eBay auctioneers and giving many pause when it comes to the notion that eBay has the backs of small business owners.
