Scott Shane honored for research on entrepreneurship

Posted by: John Tozzi on January 29, 2009

Case Western economics professor Scott Shane has just been honored with the Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research.

We spoke to Scott last year about his book, The Illusions of Entrepreneurship, in which he looks at the data behind small business and startups and finds that the picture isn’t as rosy as many aspiring entrepreneurs would like to think. His latest book examines angel investing. In his spare time, he blogs over at SmallBizTrends.

I’ve written before about the shortage of small business data. Research like Scott’s helps us, as reporters, understand the world we write about better.

The award was given by three Swedish groups: the Swedish Foundation for Small Business Research, the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth, and the Research Institute of Industrial Economics. Congrats, Scott. Check out our interview with him from last year.

Thanks, John, forpointing this out. I wasn't aware. Scott is too modest to talk about it himself.
