Barbie and Bratz: Back in Court

Posted by: Stacy Perman on August 21, 2008

Jury deliberations are on tap to start today over whether MGA Entertainment, the maker of the pouty-lipped line of Bratz dolls should pay damages to Mattel, the maker of Barbie. Last month, a jury found that Carter Bryant, a former Barbie designer had created Bratz while still under contract with Mattel.

According to a court filing, reported by Reuters, MGA claimed its business would be “ruined immediately” should the jury award damages “anywhere approaching the amounts sought by Mattel.”

Is Mattel going to take Bryant back to work? How dare Mattel use his ideas without consulting him, the artist?
