Jury deliberations are on tap to start today over whether MGA Entertainment, the maker of the pouty-lipped line of Bratz dolls should pay damages to Mattel, the maker of Barbie. Last month, a jury found that Carter Bryant, a former Barbie designer had created Bratz while still under contract with Mattel.
Closing arguments over the damages phase of the trial ended yesterday with Mattel calling on MGA to fork over some $2 billion in profits, along with unspecified punitive damages. According to a court filing, reported by Reuters, MGA claimed its business would be “ruined immediately” should the jury award damages “anywhere approaching the amounts sought by Mattel.”
