| NAME | DEFINITION | SYMPTOMS | TREATMENT |
| CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME |
Inflammation and swelling of ligaments and tendons in the wrist, which lead to compression of adjacent median nerve. |
Numbness and pain in wrist, arm, to and hand, which often increases at night. |
Anti-inflammatories, splints to stabilize the wrist, and in severe cases, surgery to relieve pressure on the nerve. |
| TENDONITIS AND TENOSYNOVITIS |
Inflammation of a tendon, the soft tissue that holds muscle to bone (tendonitis), or the membrane that sheaths a tendon (tenosynovitis). Frequently affects shoulder and upper arm. |
Pain upon movement and, in some cases, swelling. |
Rest or immobilization, hot or cold compresses, anti-inflammatory medications and controlled exercise, usually under the supervision of a physical therapist. |
| EPICONDYLITIS |
Inflammation of the forearm muscles or tendons near their site of origin at the outside of the elbow; also known as "tennis elbow" because it frequently affects tennis players. |
Severe pain may radiate down the outside of the arm. |
Anti-inflammatory medications and rest. Even the most mild cases can last for weeks or months. |
