September 29, 2005Retail Advice
I'm a small-business consultant, largely retail, and would like to offer ideas and suggestions to anyone in the affected area facing reopening or rebuilding their business. Of course, not being there physically is quite different from working over the Internet, but if anyone needs a little help in planning I am happy to offer my help.

A Plea to Business Survivors
Let's get businesses impacted by Katrina BACK UP and RUNNING...
I would like to help create and publish a list of companies that were impacted by Katrina. Instead of waiting for someone in an official position to put this together -- I'd like to help now with what I can do.
If you lost a businesses due to Katrina -- I want to know what you need and how we can help. I will try to find business owners (not impacted by Katrina) who have the resources and desire to help you. We who have our businesses up and running can work together to help those who have lost their businesses to get back on solid ground.
For those who have had their businesses destroyed or are unable to open back up -- please send me your company name, skill set, products or what your specialty is, where you were located and any new contact information you have. Let me know what you need (be it computers, paper, phones, etc.). Please let me know how I can contact you as well if I have questions.
I can help to get this information to other business owners who want to donate the products or services you need.
It's a small step -- but I hope that this can provide many hard working, caring business owners with the boost they need to get back up and running. I know how much working and being able to provide for my family means to me -- I hope I can help you not only recoup what you lost but build a bigger business with the support of other good, hard-working, and caring business owners.

As a small-business owner, I can only imagine the devastation of Katrina on small businesses throughout the South. More than machines and mortar, lives and dreams were swept away in the aftermath of this tragedy. The prayers of myself and my staff go out to owners and employees alike who now face the formidable challenge of putting back together the businesses that you've worked so hard to create.
I own an engineering and equipment company and a small business consulting firm. We want to help and stand ready with resources to get you through your recovery. Call me direct if there is anything we can do to assist you, either from our offices or your location.

September 20, 2005Building Blocks
We are manufacturers of a prefab concrete forming system called DC FORM made with plastic panels. DC FORM utilizes reusable injected plastic panels to realize formwork to build concrete slabs and walls fast and accurately to do low cost houses or schools.
The system allows the construction of earthquake-resistant and hurricane proof buildings adapted to different situations and needs.
We are therefore convinced that we have all the components to be useful in the reconstruction of the devastated areas. Our system of light formwork DC FORM makes it possible for the construction of quick and economical housing units of reinforced concrete made by the local work force.
We are ready to participate in the installation a first demonstration project in Louisiana or Mississippi. We are looking for a partner/builder who will like to use our system. We are ready to supply our formwork at a discounted price and to supply technical assistance and training at no charge.

September 15, 2005Put Technology to Use
With all the corporate donations, somebody needs to set up a one-stop shopping area at the Astrodome, outside in trailers. Banking, Social Security Office, Post Office, Bell South so they can use phones, and Verizon so they buy cell phones. Dell set up trailers so people can use computers. FEMA Office and other emergency offices. With all the technology, why aren't we using it?

The Importance of Faith
My heart goes out to each and everyone of you!! I know how to survive a disaster, I have been through many, and it's got to be faith that sustains me!! I feel that whatever religion you have, you know that you all are looked upon, with courage and fulfillment eventually in good times and in bad. The 9-11 tragedy took away my business and I soon recovered, with the help of God, and all his angels... Soon your lives will be repaired and I feel that if there is anything that my company can do to help you, please do not hesitate and let us know, We small businesses have a helping hand if we can help a little.
So go out today, make the best day you can possibly can, and just remember you all are NOT alone, we all stand up for our own, our own people, the USA!!

September 12, 2005Pitching In
Gifts In Kind International, along with our corporate and logistics partners, provides a unique emergency relief response plan that directly connects community needs with corporate giving.
Businesses can donate newly manufactured products to Gifts In Kind International, the world¹s leading product philanthropist. Gifts In Kind International manages product donation programs for 44% of the Fortune 500 companies, among others. The Gillette Company, Nike, IBM, Men¹s Warehouse, Mattel, Talbots, and Estée Lauder have contributed products, bringing needed comfort and aid to Katrina¹s victims.
We help our donors provide essential products and distribute them when and where they are needed most. Businesses can learn more by visiting www.giftsinkind.org. Gifts In Kind International also accepts financial contributions to assist the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
During this emergency relief period, we ask donating companies to provide shipping of the products. This helps Gifts In Kind International, which operates at less than one percent of the value of goods distributed and the recipient organizations who have limited resources.
Currently, we have 16 distribution centers strategically located around the Gulf states ready to take action. These centers are receiving and redistributing products to shelters, the Astrodome, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, United Way, among other front-line charities that are providing the victims of Hurricane Katrina with the necessary products to begin the restoration of their lives. We recommend contacting the front-line charities to receive the items they need.
Hurricane Katrina has devastated thousands of lives. We hope our efforts will give those victims a sense of relief and support during this difficult time.
