UAE: President's health 'reassuring' after stroke

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — A senior Emirati official says the health of the federation's president is "stable and reassuring" following a stroke he suffered last month.

The comments from Sheik Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan were carried by state news agency WAM late on Monday. He says Emirati President Sheik Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan "passed through difficult moments" and is "fine."

Sheik Mohammed is the crown prince of Abu Dhabi and is next in line to succeed Khalifa, his half-brother.

Khalifa underwent surgery after suffering a stroke on January 24. He has not been seen in public since. His condition has been described as stable, though officials have not disclosed the severity of his illness.
