Euro-Area Construction Output Fell in September on Italy, France

November 19, 2012

Euro-area construction output fell in September as declines in Italy, France and Spain offset growth in Germany.

Construction in the 17-nation euro area dropped 1.4 percent from August, when it rose a revised 0.6 percent, the European Union’s statistics office in Luxembourg said today. From a year earlier, construction output declined 2.6 percent.

While Germany, Europe’s largest economy, reported a gain in construction output of 2.7 percent from August, Italian production plummeted 8 percent in the month, according to today’s report. France and Spain had declines of 0.5 percent and 0.2 percent, respectively. Ireland and Greece are not required to provide monthly data.

In the 27-nation EU, output dropped 1.8 percent from August, when it rose 0.2 percent.
