New York Yankees All-Star Robinson Cano became a U.S. citizen today, he said via Twitter.

Cano, a 30-year-old second baseman, was born in San Pedro de Macoris in the Dominican Republic. Cano didn’t say where he took the oath of citizenship.

“Very proud day for me,” Cano posted on his Twitter feed. “I just became a US citizen. God bless America!”

Cano hit .313 with 33 home runs and 94 runs batted in this season, and is a finalist for the AL Most Valuable Player award to be announced this week. He has spent his entire career with the Yankees, reaching the big-league club in 2005.

Cano is a career .308 hitter with 177 home runs and 715 RBI.
