The Democratic National Committee, which raised a ton of money for the Clinton campaign, is turning its attention to its own chronically shaky finances. The goal of new party chair David Wilhelm is to build up the sort of small-donor base that sustains the Republicans year in and year out. To attract new donors, Wilhelm is considering a national fund-raising telethon. Wilhelm promises the results will be different from the Democrats' last, catastrophic telethon in 1983. Then, high production costs and disappointing pledges produced a $1.5 million net loss.
