The Worst Paying U.S. Jobs Are on the East and West Coasts

Who said coastal living was easy?

An analysis by Bloomberg Businessweek shows that the 10 worst-paying jobs in the country are mostly in states on the East and West Coasts. (The exceptions: dishwashers in Las Vegas and counter attendants in Lewiston, Idaho.)

The lowest-paying job, on average, is a shampooer in Baltimore (and if you’ve seen Hairspray, you know that’s no walk in the park). The highest salary of the bottom 10 goes to ushers and ticket-takers in Atlantic City, N.J.

The mean salary among the bottom 10 is about $19,405 a year, less than half the U.S. median household income at the end of last year ($51,017).

On the bright side, personal income in the U.S. has been rising steadily since February, but that probably doesn’t mean much to the nation’s lowest-paid employees.
