Late-season crop harvest winding down in ND

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota's late-season crop harvest is winding down as farmers make preparations for next year.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says in its weekly crop, livestock and weather report that the corn harvest is virtually complete at 98 percent, and sugarbeets are 95 percent harvested.

The sunflower crop is 89 percent harvested, ahead of 78 percent last year and the five-year average of 60 percent.

Fertilizer application progressed in areas where moisture was at suitable levels.

Topsoil moisture supplies are rated 10 percent very short, 35 percent short, 53 percent adequate and 2 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies are rated 20 percent very short, 43 percent short, 36 percent adequate and 1 percent surplus.

Livestock producers are preparing for the winter feeding season.
