Asia Markets Finish Down

Asian markets finished slightly down on Thursday. Japan's Nikkei 225 index lost 8.85 points, or 0.10%, to finish the day at 8,923.41. Hong Kong's benchmark Hang Seng index fell 22.88 points, closing at 9,606.11.

European markets closed mixed, but mostly lower on Thursday. London's FTSE 100 index was lower by 27.3 points, or 0.67%, to close at 4,040.60. U.K. building supply giant, Hanson PLC, disappointed traders by announcing that its first half profits would be lower than last year. Canada's benchmark S&P/TSX rose 20.78 points, or 0.30%, to 6,991.40.
