Eaton Vance Hires Goldman Sachs’s Perkin to Run Equity (1)

February 14, 2014

Eaton Vance Corp. (EV:US), the money manager known for its focus on tax-efficient investing, appointed Goldman Sachs Group Inc. executive Edward J. Perkin as chief equity investment officer.

Perkin, 42, former chief investment officer for international and emerging markets equity at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, replaces Duncan W. Richardson, who retired in October after 26 years with Eaton Vance, the Boston-based firm said today in a statement. Perkin will join April 29 and report to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Thomas E. Faust Jr.

Perkin “brings a record as an outstanding value stock investor and a skilled leader of investment teams,” Faust said in the statement. “I am confident that, under Eddie’s leadership, our equity group can deliver superior results for the clients we serve.”

Perkin led a team of 50 investment managers and analysts in Goldman Sachs’s London office. Eaton Vance is pushing for approval from regulators for a product that would combine the flexibility of actively managed mutual funds with some of the cost savings and ease of trading of exchange-traded funds.

Suneil Mahindru will take over at Goldman Sachs Asset Management as chief investment officer of international equity and Prashant Khemka will be CIO of emerging markets equity, Andrea Raphael, a spokeswoman, said in an e-mail.

Before heading international and emerging market equity, Perkin was a money manager and analyst at Goldman Sachs Asset Management specializing in finding undervalued stocks. Perkin has a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara and an MBA from Columbia Business School.

Eaton Vance managed $278.6 billion in assets as of Jan. 31, the company said.
