Tesoro Golden Eagle Seen Bringing Crude Unit Online Tomorrow

October 29, 2013

Tesoro Corp. (TSO:US)’s Golden Eagle refinery is performing repairs at the crude unit after an Oct. 26 blaze and expects to bring it back online tomorrow, a person familiar with plant operations said.

A fuel burner at the unit caught fire, causing minor damage, said the person, who asked not to be identified because the information isn’t public. The unit’s charge pump was locked up, keeping the equipment shut, the person said.

The 170,000-barrel-a-day Golden Eagle refinery near Martinez, California, supplies almost 10 percent of the state’s gasoline and 20 percent of its diesel, according to the company’s website. The refinery is Tesoro’s largest and is the second-biggest in Northern California behind Chevron Corp. (CVX:US)’s Richmond complex.

Tina Barbee, a spokeswoman at Tesoro’s headquarters in San Antonio, said by e-mail today that the fire didn’t damage equipment and didn’t affect the company’s ability to meet supply commitments.
