Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel topped qualifying for today’s Formula One Canadian Grand Prix, giving the world champion his third pole position of the season.
Vettel’s time of 1 minute, 25.435 seconds around the Circuit Gilles Villenueve in Montreal was 0.086 seconds faster than Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes. The German started from pole in the season’s first two races before Mercedes cars qualified fastest in the past four races.
Valtteri Bottas of Williams, Mercedes’s Nico Rosberg, Red Bull’s Mark Webber and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso rounded out the top six qualifiers.
Vettel leads the season standings after six of 19 races with 107 points, 21 more than Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus. Raikkonen qualified ninth, more than two seconds behind Vettel.
