Manchester City Beats Chelsea 2-0 in England’s Premier League

Defending champion Manchester City beat Chelsea 2-0 in English soccer’s Premier League today and still trails leader Manchester United by 12 points after the weekend’s games. Newcastle defeated Southampton 4-2.

Yaya Toure and Carlos Tevez got the goals for City after Frank Lampard, seeking his 200th goal for Chelsea, saw his penalty kick saved by Joe Hart.

Yesterday United won 2-0 at bottom club Queens Park Rangers. It has 68 points, followed by City (56), Chelsea (49) and Tottenham (48).

QPR has 17 points, with Reading (23) and Aston Villa (24) in the other two places in the relegation zone. Wigan also has 24 points and Southampton 27. Newcastle is in 14th spot with 30 points.

Yesterday, Arsenal beat Aston Villa 2-1 and Norwich defeated Everton by the same score. Fulham had a 1-0 victory over Stoke, Wigan won 3-0 at Reading, and Sunderland went down 2-1 at West Brom. West Ham hosts Tottenham tomorrow.

Later today, Swansea City meets Bradford City in the League Cup final at Wembley.
