Turkish President Approves Law to Allow Court Defense in Kurdish

Turkish President Abdullah Gul approved a law that allows suspects to defend themselves in their mother tongue, including the once-banned Kurdish language, state-run Anatolia news agency says today. * NOTE: The move comes amid talks between Turkish officials and imprisoned PKK chief Abdullah Ocalan to try to end fighting by PKK militants for autonomy in the country’s Kurdish-dominated southeast since 1984
