January 07, 2013

Chip Kelly will remain football coach at the University of Oregon after deciding to turn down a chance to go to the National Football League, ESPN reported, citing people in the league it didn’t identify.

Kelly, 49, interviewed for job openings with the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns, ESPN said. He’s compiled a 46-7 record in four years at Oregon and reached four straight Bowl Championship Series games.

Oregon went 12-1 this season and beat Kansas State 35-17 in the Fiesta Bowl. Kelly’s offense ranked second in the nation, averaging 49.5 points a game.
