NTPC Tamilnadu Energy Co., an Indian power producer, is seeking to import 500,000 metric tons of steam coal for its unit in southern India.

The company, a joint venture of NTPC Ltd. (NTPC), India’s biggest power producer, and Tamilnadu Generation and Distribution Corp., wants the fuel delivered at its 1,500 megawatt Vallur power plant, said S. Sukumaran, a senior manager, by telephone from Chennai.

The last date for submitting bids is Dec. 17, he said without giving more details.
