India Declares on 521-8 Against England in First Cricket Test

November 16, 2012

India declared on 521-8 as Cheteshwar Pujara hit a double century, putting England in to bat on the second day of their first cricket Test in Ahmedabad.

Pujara was 206 not out, joined by Pragyan Ojha with no runs, at the end of the innings. Graeme Swann was 5-144, and also had a catch for England.

Opening batsman Nick Compton, whose grandfather played for England, is making his debut, while Samit Patel will bat at No. 6 and bowled left-arm spin. Yuvraj Singh returned to India’s Test lineup for the first time in a year after recovering from a rare germ cell cancer.

The match is the first of four between the teams. England, which swept the best-of-four contest when the teams last met in the U.K., hasn’t won a Test series in India since 1984-85.
