Lucie Safarova and Petra Kvitova both won in straight sets to give the Czech Republic a 2-0 lead over Serbia after the opening day of the Fed Cup tennis final.
Safarova beat Ana Ivanovic 6-4, 6-3 in the opening singles match in Prague. Kvitova then defeated Jelena Jankovic 6-4, 6-1 to move the Czechs within one victory of defending their title.
The best-of-five final in women’s tennis’s top team competion concludes tomorrow with two reverse singles and a doubles match.
