EPA Awards New York State $218 Million for Clean Water Projects

The Environmental Protection Agency awarded $218 million to New York state to help finance water projects, primarily to upgrade sewage plants and drinking water systems.

“The EPA is committed to improving water quality throughout New York state,” EPA Regional Administrator Judith A. Enck said in a statement.

The Clean Water State Revolving Fund program, administrated by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the New York State Environmental Facilities Corp., received $157 million. The program provides low-interest loans for water quality protection projects including wastewater improvements.

The Drinking Water State Revolving Fund program, administrated by the New York State Department of Health, received almost $61 million. The program provides low-interest loans to finance improvements to drinking water systems, focusing on smaller and disadvantaged communites, the EPA said.
