Fleet Aviation LLC, a charter-flight company servicing East Coast vacation destinations including the Hamptons on New York’s Long Island, filed to liquidate in bankruptcy.

Fleet Aviation, which flies out of New York’s Westchester County Airport, provides service to East Hampton and Montauk on Long Island, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket in Massachusetts and Cape May in New Jersey, according to its website.

The company didn’t give a reason for the Chapter 7 filing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in White Plains, New York, and a phone message wasn’t returned. Douglas Brennan resigned as chief executive officer this year, according to the filing.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Manhattan sued Fleet Aviation in August, saying the company used an unqualified pilot on dozens of flights in 2008 and 2009 in violation of federal aviation regulations. The company agreed to pay a $40,000 fine to settle the case, according to court papers.

Fleet Aviation charges as much as $800 an hour for flights on Baron aircraft, which hold as many as five passengers, according to its website. The bankruptcy petition listed as much as $50,000 in assets and as much as $500,000 in debt.

The case is In re Fleet Aviation LLC, 12-23835, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of New York (White Plains).
