Chile-U.S. Group Plans $1.3 Billion Power Project, Mercurio Says

A local and U.S. investor group plans to invest about $1.3 billion to build a 700 megawatt power plant in central Chile, newspaper El Mercurio reported, citing Sergio del Campo, the nation’s deputy energy minister.

The group of investors includes Cheniere Energy Inc. (LNG:US), the newspaper reported, without saying where it got the information. The plant will start an initial phase of operations in 2017, according to El Mercurio, which cited unidentified people in the electric industry.
