September 26, 2012

Edinson Cavani scored three goals as Napoli beat Lazio 3-0 to keep pace with Juventus atop Italy’s Serie A as AC Milan got its first home win of the season.

Uruguayan striker Cavani scored in the 19th, 31st and 64th minutes last night to lift Napoli alongside defending champion Juventus with 13 points through five matches.

With Inter Milan winning 2-0 away to Chievo and Sampdoria drawing 1-1 at Roma, Lazio dropped to fifth place. Stephan El Shaarawy scored twice as AC Milan beat Cagliari to move up to 10th. It was the first league win this season for either Milan club at the San Siro stadium they share.

In Spain, Radamel Falcao scored two goals as Atletico Madrid twice came from behind to beat nine-man Real Betis 4-2 and take second place in the standings behind Barcelona. Falcao’s double pushed the Colombian striker ahead of Lionel Messi as La Liga’s top scorer with seven goals.

Hannover moved up to third place in Germany’s Bundesliga with a 4-1 victory against Nurnberg last night. There were also wins for Bayer Leverkusen, Werder Bremen and Hoffenheim.
