Adam LaRoche hit two of six home runs for the Washington Nationals as they defeated the Chicago Cubs 11-5.
The Nationals improved to 83-52, the best record in Major League Baseball.
Ian Desmond hit a two-run homer in the first inning and a two-run double in the second. Jesus Flores also hit a home run in the second to give the Nationals a 5-0 lead.
LaRoche and Tyler Moore hit home runs in the fourth inning and Ryan Zimmerman added a fifth homer in the sixth, with LaRoche adding his 27th of the season in the eighth last night at Nationals Park in Washington.
Starlin Castro drove in two runs for the Cubs and Alfonso Soriano had a two-run triple and a solo home run.
The Atlanta Braves (76-60), who lost 6-0 to Colorado, and the St. Louis Cardinals (74-62), who defeated the New York Mets 5-1, are tied atop the NL wild-card standings.
