Australian Boxer Geale Beats Sturm to Grab Unification Crown

Australian boxer Daniel Geale added Felix Sturm’s WBA middleweight super title to his IBF crown with a split decision win after 12 rounds in Oberhausen, Germany.

British judge Dave Parris and South African Stanley Christodoulou both scored the unification bout to Geal 116-112. U.S. official Eugene Grant had German Stern the victor 116-112.

Sydney-based Geale, 31, who was in his third defense of his IBF title, took his overall record to 28 wins, 1 loss with 15 knockouts.

Sturm, 33, unbeaten in his last 14 fights over six years, now has a record of 37 wins, 3 losses, 2 draws and 16 knockouts.
