The Spanish government asked the European Union to oversee tax payments in Spain by technology companies including Google Inc. (GOOG), Facebook Inc. (FB) and Apple Inc. (AAPL), Expansion reported, without saying where it got the information.

The Budget Ministry should be getting at least a further 1 billion euros ($1.2 billion) in tax from these companies and is studying closely their accounting structures, the newspaper said.
