Syria Names Ghalawanji as Interim Premier After Hijab Dismissal

August 06, 2012

Syria appointed Oman Ghalawanji as interim prime minister after Riad Hijab was dismissed less than two months at the position, state-run Syrian TV reported.

Ghalawanji is deputy prime minister for services affairs and minister of local administration, according to Syrian Arab News Agency.

The news agency reported on June 23 that President Bashar al-Assad, battling civil unrest and calls for his removal from office, appointed Hijab, a former agriculture minister, as prime minister.
