South Korea Has 18,893 MW of Nuclear Capacity Online

South Korea has 18 nuclear reactors in operation, producing 16,820 megawatts of power, or about 87 percent of total capacity, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Two additional plants are undergoing trials with 2,073 megawatts of capacity online.

The following table shows the status of the nation’s 21 reactors with a combined regular capacity of 19,259 megawatts and two that are in trial operation by state-run Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. as of today. The operator started operating the Kori-1 nuclear reactor yesterday as the nation issued a power shortage alert amid rising temperatures, according to the Ministry of Knowledge Economy. The country’s oldest reactor may be fully functional as early as Aug. 10.
