Russia’s Mustafina Wins Uneven Bars as Douglas Is Shut Out

Aliya Mustafina of Russia won Olympic gold in the women’s uneven bars, beating China’s Kexin He in the final today. All-around champion Gabby Douglas of the U.S. finished last.

Mustafina, a 17-year-old from Moscow, scored 16.133 points at London’s North Greenwich Arena, bringing Russia’s medal haul in the gymnastics competition to six. He, 20, finished second and Britain’s Beth Tweddle won bronze.

Mustafina’s victory places Russia eighth in the medals table at the London Games. She took silver in the team event and bronze in the individual all-around final.

Douglas, 16, who also won gold in the team event, was last in the eight-woman field today with a score of 14.900.
