Saudi Arabia invited Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to an “emergency summit” on Islamic solidarity to be held in Mecca on August 14-15, Arab News reported, citing Muhammad bin Ahmed Tayeb, director general of the Foreign Ministry’s office in the Muslim holy city.
Saudi Ambassador to Iran Muhammad al-Kilabi handed the invitation to Rahim Mashani, director of the Iranian president’s office, at a meeting in Tehran yesterday, the Jeddah-based newspaper reported. The kingdom invited leaders of the 57 member states of Organization of Islamic Cooperation to attend the conference.
