Russia Equity Movers: Norilsk Nickel, Sberbank, Surgut, Tatneft

The 30-stock Micex Index (INDEXCF) rose 0.6 percent to 1,434.47 by the close in Moscow. The dollar- denominated RTS Index gained 1.7 percent to 1,413.97.

The following are among the most active equities in the Russian market today. Stock symbols are in parenthesis.

OAO GMK Norilsk Nickel (GMKN RX) jumped 0.9 percent to 5,137 rubles, the biggest jump since June 27. Russia’s largest mining company gained as nickel advanced in London trading.

OAO Sberbank (SBER RX) rose 0.6 percent to 92.15 rubles, the highest May 3. The biggest holder of ruble deposits climbed as the Russian currency appreciated for a fifth day versus the dollar.

OAO Surgutneftegas (SNGS RX) gained 0.6 percent to 27.465 rubles. OAO Tatneft (TATN) rose 2.2 percent to 197.25 rubles, the highest level since July 5. OAO Transneft (TRNFP RX) climbed 1.3 percent to 51,536 rubles, the strongest since May 5. Oil producers gained as crude oil advanced 2.3 percent to $91.92 in New York and Brent rose 2.1 percent to $107.33.
