ArcelorMittal Invests $8 Million in Romania to Reduce Pollution

ArcelorMittal (MT) Galati SA, the Romanian unit of the world’s largest steelmaker ArcelorMittal, invested 6.6 million euros ($8 million) over the past year to reduce pollution.

The Romanian producer has invested more than $168 million in the past decade in environment protection projects, the company said in an e-mailed statement today.

“We are committed to taking all necessary measures to ensure full compliance with European Union requirements and local legislation,” ArcelorMittal Galati Chief Executive Officer Bruno Ribo said in the statement. “We have implemented a rigorous environment protection program that we continued despite the economic crisis.”
