India Monsoon Rains 21% Below Normal Since June 1, Bureau Says

India’s monsoon, which accounts for more than 70 percent of annual rainfall, was 21 percent below a 50-year average since June 1, the nation’s weather bureau said today.

The nation got 243.1 millimeters of rainfall in the June 1 to July 16 period, the India Meteorological Department said on its website. That is less than the 308.2 millimeter average considered normal for the period, it said.
