Uganda Police Arrest Rwandan Genocide Suspect Wanted in Belgium

July 06, 2012

Uganda arrested a Rwandan wanted by a Belgian court for suspected complicity in the 1994 genocide in his country, the Daily Monitor Online reported, citing police.

Thaddee Kwitonda, 51, wanted since April 2011, was arrested yesterday in Kampala, the capital, after police trailed him for three months, the Kampala-based newspaper reported, citing police spokesman Asuman Mugenyi. The suspect, who holds a Belgian passport, arrived in Uganda in March, it said.

At least 800,000 people, mainly from the Tutsi minority, were killed in the Rwandan genocide, according to the United Nations.
