Russia Equity Movers: Mechel, RusHydro, TNK-BP, VTB Bank

The 30-stock Micex Index (INDEXCF) fell for the second day, losing 1.5 percent to 1,414.28 by the close in Moscow. The dollar-denominated RTS Index dropped 2.2 percent to 1,357.71.

The following are among the most active equities in the Russian market today. Stock symbols are in parenthesis.

OAO Mechel (MTLR RX) dropped 1.4 percent to 207.60 rubles, the second day of declines. Russia’s biggest coking coal producer fell after saying work was temporarily halted at a mine after the nation’s environmental regulator found violations.

OAO RusHydro (HYDR RX) declined 2.5 percent to 80.81 kopeks, the second day of losses. Russia’s largest hydropower company fell a second day on a Kommersant report it may receive a smaller-than-expected payment for selling a stake to state holding company OAO Rosneftegaz.

TNK-BP (TNBP RX) jumped for the first time in three days, adding as much as 3.3 percent, before trading up 0.3 percent to 76.25 rubles. AAR, a group representing billionaire partners in the Russian oil producer, said it will offer to buy half of BP Plc’s 50 percent holding within the next two weeks.

VTB Group (VTBR RX) dropped 3.8 percent to 5.62 kopeks, the lowest level since June 28. Russia’s second-biggest lender extended losses after posting a 13 percent first-quarter profit drop yesterday.
