Shares of the following companies had unusual moves in Taiwan trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the close in Taipei.
The Taiex Index (TWSE) rose 1 percent to 7,418.36, its highest close since May 10.
Acer Inc. (2353) (2353 TT), Taiwan’s largest computer maker, added 0.8 percent to NT$31.15. The company said it plans to buy back 10 million shares at between NT$28 and NT$35 each from now to Sept. 2.
ILI Technology Corp. (3598) (3598 TT), a manufacturer of display drivers, gained 2.5 percent to NT$82.5. The company said unconsolidated sales rose 62 percent from a year earlier to NT$885.4 million ($29.6 million) in June.
Microbio Co. (4128) (4128 TT), a drugmaker, slipped 2.2 percent to NT$37.25. The company said unconsolidated sales in June fell 39 percent to NT$32.78 million.
Rexchip Electronics Corp. (4932) (4932 TT), a venture with bankrupt Japanese chipmaker Elpida Memory Inc., advanced 10 percent to NT$11.04, the highest close since Feb. 15. Powerchip Technology Corp. (5346) (5346 TT), a maker of memory chips, and a unit agreed to sell 691 million shares in Rexchip to Micron Technology Inc. for NT$9.7 billion. Powerchip jumped 6.9 percent to NT$0.62.
